As expected, trainer Willie Mullins has decided to bypass Tuesday's Stan James Champion Hurdle with his exciting prospect Un De Sceaux, taking the view that the unbeaten son of Denham Red will benefit from more experience before taking on the likes of stablemate Hurricane Fly and The New One at championship level.

The Closutton maestro may rely on dual champion Hurricane Fly in an effort to join the likes of Persian War, See You Then and Istabrac as a triple winner of the great race with Annie Power almost certain to take on Big Buck's and company in Thursday's Ladbrokes World Hurdle while Thousand Stars would surely play the role of pacemaker should he line up on Wednesday.

Un De Sceaux made it five from five over hurdles when toying with his three rivals to land the Grade 2 Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran Park last month after which the horse was quoted as short as 10-1 for Tuesday's championship contest. Explaning his decision to skip this year's Festival with the French-bred gelding, Mullins said: " Un De Sceaux isn't travelling to Cheltenham and we will wait another while before deciding on end-of-season targets for him."

Those targets are sure to include the meeting's at Antree and Punchestown when Un De Sceau will be given the opportunity to put his undoubted potential to the test before the end of the season.
