2011 Cheltenham Festival winner Divers will require a prep race before taking a plunge at the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham's Open meeting in November according to his trainer.

Ferdy Murphy reports his progressive seven-year-old is in great condition and will be sharpened up with a run at Carlisle on 30 October before taking a crack at the Grade 3 handicap steeplechase at Cheltenham on 12 November.

Murphy said: "Divers will go for the Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase at Carlisle before running in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. He's well and training well at home. He looks great, but I wouldn't want to go to the Paddy Power without a run beforehand as most of mine have been coming on for their first run."

Divers will be making his first racecourse appearance since winning the Centenary Novices Handicap at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival meeting and is one of the market leaders for the Paddy Power Gold Cup which is run over the same course and distance. Race sponsor Paddy Power is offering odds of 12/1 for Divers to win the race which is the feature of Cheltenham's three-day Open meeting.

Colin Tizzard-trained Cue Card won the Cheltenham Collection Sharp Novices Hurdle at last year's Open meeting and could continue his education over fences at the 2011 meeting. Tizzard's stable star made a faultless transition from hurdling at Chepstow last week, leaving some good horses in his wake and is set to get some practice over the Cheltenham fences before going to the Festival in March.

Cue Card's Cheltenham Festival target remains undecided, but jockey and trainers son Joe Tizzard believes he could be an Arkle candidate: "We weren't really sure what trip he wanted last year and we still haven't worked it out. I think he's got plenty of pace. They wouldn't get away from him in an Arkle and you need to have a horse that stays in that anyway.

"With his gears, that is where I'd have thought he'd go, but there's a long time to go yet. I think there's a race for him at Cheltenham in November so we'll probably go there to give him some match practice," he told Racing UK.
