Byrne Group Plate - Cheltenham Betting Tips

County Meath trainer Gordon Elliot has entered his strongest team for this year’s Cheltenham Festival and saddled a double on Wednesday when the Irish won the first six races. Elliot prepared Chicago Grey to win the National Hunt Chase for amateur riders to start the ball rolling for Ireland and followed with Carlito Brigante who won the Coral Cup in impressive style.

Prospects for the Irish raiders on St Patrick’s Day don’t look so good, but Elliott could help pay for the Guinness with his Beautiful Sound in the 21-runner Byrne Group Plate (Handicap Chase) at 4.00pm.

The son of Presenting should enjoy the good ground conditions as indicated when beating the decent Agus A Vic on good going at Fairyhouse in 2007. That was his first attempt over fences and the only time Beautiful Sound has run in similar conditions. He did not appear again until last November and won his first start before struggling in heavy ground at Leopardstown a month later where he suffered his only defeat. Returning to Fairyhouse in January he showed he was progressing when winning a 0-116 handicap under top weight.

The unexposed 9-year-old looks to have scope for further improvement and isn’t harshly treated by the handicapper. He has a sound each way chance and is available at odds of 7/1 on Thursday morning but it may be worth foregoing half a point and taking 13/2 with Betfred who will pay five places on each way bets.
