The Willie Mullins trained So Young, available at 5/1 yesterday morning, is now no bigger than 7/2 for Wednesday's Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle, after the trainer confirmed the 5 year-old as his only runner in the extended two mile four furlong contest.

Unbeaten in two runs over hurdles, the french bred gelding was particularly impressive when landing odds of 1/6 at Punchestown last month, under a supremely confident ride from jockey Paul Townsend.

The Jessica Harrington trained Oscars Well had shot to the head of the market after landing Leopardstown's Grade 1 Deloitte Novices Hurdle, but can now be backed at a standout 4/1 with Stan James, two points bigger than Victor Chandler and William Hill's top price about third favourite Bobs Worth.

The Irish look to hold a strong hand in an event they have won four times in the last eight years, twice by Mullins, with Fiveforthree ( 2008 ) and Mikael D'Haguenet ( 2009 ), and Gold Cup - winning trainer Mouse Morris is confident his First Lieutenant is capable of playing a leading role, no matter what ground conditions prevail at the time of the race.

12/1 With Boylesports, Coral and William Hill, First Lieutenant has not ran since causing a shock by beating two highly regarded rivals in Zaidpour and Hidden Cyclone in the Grade 1 Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas.

The Grade 2 race of the same name run at Cheltenham in January and won by Bobs Worth from Rock On Ruby is sure to play a part in the outcome of Wednesday's race, but this looks one race that is likely to go to a challenger from the other side of the Irish sea.
