A small but select field will go to post for Tuesday's Stan James Champion Hurdle, after thirteen horses were declared for the championship contest at the six-day declaration stage.

Even though the race looks like having one of the smallest fields assembled in recent years, the season's ultimate hurdling prize is full of quality, and as competitive as ever.

The Nicky Henderson trained Binocular will attempt to become the first dual winner of the race since Hardy Eustace completed the double in 2004/2005, and J P McManus's 7 year-old is currently a top price 10/3 favourite with sportingbet.

Beaten three and a half length by Binocular last year, Khyber Kim will try to go one better for the Nigel Twiston-Davies stable, and can be backed at odds of 16/1, due to a below par effort behind the champion in Kempton's Christmas Hurdle.

As ever the Irish once again hold a strong hand, headed by the exciting Hurricane Fly, unbeaten this season Willie Mullins' charge will be having his first run at Prestbury Park, after failing to make the last two Festivals due to injury.

Dunguib( 14/1 ), hot favourite for last years' Supreme Novices' Hurdle, will hope to turn the table's on his conqueror Menorah, who has been so impressive this season, reflected in his current price of 9/2.

Last years' Supreme Novices' could have a huge say in the outcome of this years' Champion Hurdle, as one place behind Dunguib in fourth was Oscar Whisky, a best price 12/1 with Boylesports and Coral, after two impressive victories at Cheltenham and Ffos Las.

The unbeaten Peddlers Cross, 6/1 with Paddy Power and William Hill, will fly the flag for the north, while Kingwell Hurdle winner Mille Chief is no forlorn hope at odds of 16/1.

The select field is comlpeted by Thousand Stars, Clerks Choice, Salden Licht, Bygones of Brid, and Peddlers Cross's stablemate Overturn, who should ensure that the contest is run at it's usual testing pace.
