Most bookmakers are now offering Non Runner No Bet on all races at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival following the news that Stan James started to offer this concession from yesterday and William Hill from today .

With so many horses entered into multiple races and considerable doubts still about running plans the NRNB concession is vital for punters wanting to place a bet now for the Festival which begins next Tuesday .

Many bookmakers have reported a fall in ante-post betting so far on the Cheltenham Festival which most of them believe is due to the abandonment of some key Cheltenham trials and the fact that many of the leading contenders for the big races simply haven't ran much this season . David Stevens the PR Manager for Corals said yesterday "Twenty seven races have encouraged trainers to make more multiple entries..punters aren't going to bet if they dont know at which race their fancy is being targeted ."

The Non Runner No Bet concession makes a difference to the turnover for bookmakers as Stevens admitted "We went non runner no bet last Friday and enjoyed our busiest day's trading of the year, turnover was terrific."

Blue Square Head of Trading , Richard Thomas believes ante-post betting on this year's Cheltenham Festival is down 30% and gives the example of Imperial Commander who won last year's Cheltenham Gold Cup and is favourite to do so again this year,"He's only raced once this season , the public haven't seen him since Haydock in November, and there have been conflicting reports over his well being."

Stan James who are this year sponsoring the Champion Hurdle and the Supreme Novice Hurdle for the first time are the exception to the rule but have been promoting some generous Cheltenham Offers since agreeing the sponsorship package with Cheltenham racecourse . Gary McGibbon Communications Manager for Stan James said "Turnover has held up principally because of the number of promotions we've done." Amongst a raft of good offers Stan James offered each way 1/4 odds 1-2-3-4 for the Champion Hurdle throughout January and February to help boost interest and betting turnover in the event .

Anyone placing a bet now for the Cheltenham Festival should ensure the bookmaker they bet with is offering Non Runner No Bet . Those bookies offering the concession on all races now include :

Paddy Power

William Hill
