Sizing Europe intent on Queen Mother Champions Chase

Henry de Bromhead’s Sizing Europe has been removed from two of his three events at this year’s Cheltenham Festival. Bromhead has instead focused his gelding’s attention on the Queen Mother Champion Chase, following being scratched from the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Ryanair Chase.

Sizing Europe missed this year’s 3 mile King George after it was abandoned and later rescheduled, causing his 3rd place finish at the Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown to be his first race since November; dropping back down to the minimum trip in the process.

Removal from the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Ryanair Chase allows him to focus on the distance he knows best. Clearly more comfortable at 16f, Sizing Europe has competed at this distance in 16 out of all 22 of his events since 2006; including glory at last year’s Cheltenham Festival in the Arkle Trophy.

Henry Bromhead believes chances of success are high, and is reportedly delighted with how his horse is progressing.

”He looks well and he always comes to himself in the spring““

”He’s just in the Queen Mother now. He’s been good, we’re delighted with him and he’s in great form“

”Once we weren't able to conclude about him staying three miles, (when we didn't go for the King George after it was abandoned and then rescheduled), we had to rethink.“

”... He’s going back to two miles, to what we know he’s good at.“

The nine year old is now headed on a straight path to the Cheltenham Festival this March, following 2nd and 3rd place finishes in his past two events, and trainer de Bromhead hopes that back to back success on the 2 mile stretch is on the cards at this year’s Queen Mother Champion Chase.
