Oscar Whisky Champion Hurdle Bound

Tagged under: 3.20 Stan James Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy (Grade 1)

The Nicky Henderson trained Oscar Whisky put in an impressive display today when winning the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las this afternoon .

The six year old was certainly expected to win , starting at odds of 2/7 but was very impressive in running out an 8 length winner from Black Jack Blues .

Afterwards Henderson said " I think we'll stick to the Champion Hurdle route...he'll come on a good bit.".

Bookmaker reaction was muted and Oscar Whisky remains a 14/1 chance with sponsors Stan James who are the only firm to be offering to pay out on four places .

Elsewhere today Champion Hurdle favourite and last year's winner Binocular was less impressive when winning the Contenders Hurdle at Sandown .

Also trained by Nicky Henderson Binocular needed to be shaken up by Tony McCoy before easing clear of his far inferior rivals on the run in .

Gibraltar based bookie Victor Chandler have kept Binocular at odds of 5/2 to win the Champion Hurdle and spokesman Charlie McCann explained "There is no doubt that some of the Henderson team are not quite firing at present and Binocular himself was unimpressive having sweated badly before the race, a trait one would not normally associate with the current Champion." McCann warned that : "Henderson is a genius at having them right on the day ."

Ladbrokes were the lease impressed of all with Binocular's effort and now offer top price of 7/2 and a non runner money back guarantee .

It is certainly looking like being one of the most open Champion Hurdles for many years .
