Hennessy Gold Cup winner Diamond Harry is likely to make his next appearance at the Cheltenham Festival when he contests the Gold Cup on 18th March.

Connections decided against running in the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown last Tuesday in favour of heading straight to Prestbury Park.

The horse is owned by the Paul Duffy Diamond Partnership and Duffy said: ”We decided not to take him to the Lexus because of the weather conditions and it was a good call ultimately.

"He goes well fresh and that will give him his best chance if he goes straight to the Gold Cup and Nick (Williams) can prepare him."

Diamond Harry’s impressive Hennesy victory came on his first appearance of the season and he had Gold Cup hopefuls Burton Port, Denman, Carruthers and Pandarama behind him that day.

The eight-year-old began his chasing career in January 2010 and after winning two winning two novice races he went to the Cheltenham Festival for the Grade 1 RSA Chase.

Timmy Murphy pulled him up in his Cheltenham race after the horse began tailing off following a number of fiddly mistakes.

Trainer Nick Williams has produced Diamond Harry in fine form for this season and he is now one of the leading contenders for Cheltenham Festival’s blue riband prize and the 14/1 odds on offer at Stan James are the biggest around at the moment.
