Megastar Overpriced At 20/1 For Supreme Novices' Hurdle.

The Gary Moore trained Megastar, winner of the Grade 2 John Smith's Champion Standard Open Flat Race at Aintree on Grand National day, made a pleasing debut over hurdles with an easy victory over modest opposition at Ascot today.

The 5 year-old was also an excellent fifth behind Cue Card in the Weatherby's Champion Bumper at the Festival, and the son of top stayer Kayf Tara looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Sent off the 1/2 favourite for the Robert Giles Agencies Introductory Hurdle, Megastar always travelled well under jockey Jamie Moore and strolled home 16 length clear of decent flat performer Smokey Oakey.

Bookmaker reaction was to shorten the horse for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Festival to a general 16/1, but Skybet decided to leave the price unchanged at a stand-out 20/1.

Regarding today's performance trainer Gary Moore said : I'm delighted - that was exactly what I was hoping for.

" To be honest, I didn't expect him to win quite as easily as he had a slight setback about a month ago."

On paper Megastar looks to have a tough task against potential super-star Cue Card, but with that horse having several alternative engagements at the Festival the 20/1 currently on offer could represent good value at this early stage.
