Overview
Sportingbet is one of the largest e-gaming operators in the world and parent company Sportingbet PLC is listed on the London Stock Exchange where it is one of the top 250 companies.

Sportingbet has its Head Office in London but is a global company with operations around the world and licensing in many different jurisdictions including Alderney and Australia.
In Total Sportingbet have over 2.5 million customers in over 200 countries and takes more than 1 million bets per day.

Background
The company was originally founded in 1997 by Mark Blandford. Blandford had operated a chain of betting shops during the 90's but sold these shops to Tote Bookmakers in order to be able to launch Sportingbet. The business was almost an immediate success and was floated on the London Stock Exchange Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in 2001. Sportingbet continued to grow rapidly and acquired other internet betting operators as well as poker network Paradise Poker in 2004.

Mark Blandford stepped down from the day to day running of the business in 2006 when Sportingbet suffered a major setback in with the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in the United States. The Act which effectively banned taking of bets from US citizens had a massive impact on Sportingbet's business much of which at that time was derived from the US.

Sportingbet closed down all of its US facing business and instead focused on growing in Europe and other territories.
Recently the Company has reached a non prosecution agreement with US regulators with regard to its activities prior to 2006 and has agreed to pay a fine of $33M over three years.

Design and Layout
The sportingbet site is very well designed and easy to use. A quick links section in the top right hand corner navigates quickly to the most popular current events and there is a quick navigation also to the in play section. The in play application is available in a flash and non flash version. Current Offers are prominently displayed on the right of the home page and overall the site has a fresh and modern feel to it.

Navigation
Navigation is via tabs on the left and top of the page and various links throughout all pages. Most markets are only 2-3 clicks away and many much less. Speed throughout the site is very quick.
